inhale...wait, what should I bring?(FAQs)
-
Do I need to be flexible to do yoga?No — flexibility is not a prerequisite. Yoga can help to build flexibility over time, starting from wherever you are now.
-
Can I eat before class?Try to avoid a heavy meal at least 2 hours before class. A light snack is fine if you need energy — just nothing too filling right before movement or deep breathing.
-
Can I do yoga if I have an injury or health condition?Yes, though it’s important to let your teacher know before class. Many poses can be modified, but some conditions may benefit from private sessions or medical clearance first.
-
What’s the etiquette for joining a class?Arrive a few minutes early, silence your phone, and avoid strong scents. Most importantly, listen to your body and rest when needed — there’s no pressure to “keep up.”
-
What’s the difference between all the class names?Yoga classes vary widely in pace, intensity, and focus. Check class descriptions or ask us — we're happy to help you find what matches your mood, level, or goals.
-
Is yoga a workout or a form of relaxation? Both — it depends on the class style. Some classes focus on strength and stamina, others on deep rest and mindfulness. Many combine elements of both.
-
What’s the difference between yoga and Pilates?Yoga focuses on breath, flexibility, and mind-body awareness through a range of poses. Pilates emphasizes core strength, alignment, and controlled movement — both complement each other well.
-
How often should I practice yoga? That depends on your goals and schedule. Even once a week can make a difference, but 2–3 times a week tends to offer noticeable physical and mental benefits.
-
I’ve never done yoga before. What can I expect?Expect a welcoming, non-judgmental space where you can move at your own pace. Classes typically include breath awareness, guided movement, and time to rest and reset. You don’t need to be flexible or experienced — just willing to try something new. Our teachers are here to support you every step of the way.
-
What should I wear and/or bring to class?Wear something comfortable that allows you to move easily — leggings, shorts, or any soft, stretchy clothing work well. Layers are helpful, especially for slower classes or final rest. You don’t need shoes; we practice barefoot. Bring a water bottle, and if you like, your own mat or props — though we provide everything you need.
-
How do I choose the best class for me?Start by thinking about your experience with yoga, your current energy level, and what you’re hoping to gain — whether it’s strength, relaxation, flexibility, or stress relief. Each class includes a description, and we’ve also labeled most as Beginner, Open Level, or Intermediate–Advanced to help guide your choice. While our teachers offer options for all levels, choosing a class that aligns with your general ability and stamina can make your experience more enjoyable. Still unsure? Just reach out — we're happy to help you find the right fit.
-
Do I need to bring my own mat or props? We provide mats and a full set of high-quality props for every class, so there’s no need to bring your own — unless you prefer to. All of our yoga accessories are made from natural, plastic-free materials: mats are dual-sided cork and rubber, blankets are 100% unbleached cotton from India, straps and bolsters are 100% cotton, and blocks are made of antimicrobial cork. Please note: Pilates props such as balls and Magic Rings do contain plastic, which is necessary for flexibility and durability.
-
Which classes are best for beginners? Some classes are thoughtfully designed to introduce yoga in a clear, accessible way — with slower pacing, detailed guidance, and an emphasis on building confidence and ease. If you’re brand new, start with Root Practice, Flow & Reflect, or Stretch Lab. We also offer an Intro to Yoga series several times a year, perfect for absolute beginners. Space is limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
-
Do you offer more physically challenging classes?Yes! If you’re looking for a stronger, more dynamic practice, try classes like Peak Practice or Pilates Mat. These classes typically move at a faster pace, build heat, and include strength-focused sequences. Some prior experience is helpful but not always required — feel free to ask us if you’re ready to give one a try.
-
Do you offer gift cards? We do! Currently gift cards are available to cover the cost of class packs and single session classes. If you select a gift card, you can send the gift card with a message directly to the recipient. We will work with them to redeem their gift card for a class pack. Learn more about gift cards here.
-
Can I gift someone a membership to Yoga Muse?Yes! Since our memberships renew automatically each month, we offer a special option for gifting. Just contact us directly, and we’ll help you set up a custom membership for your recipient — easy and personal.
-
What if I need to leave class early? If you know in advance that you'll need to leave early, just let your teacher know before class starts and set up near the door if possible. We understand that life happens — we simply ask that you exit quietly to respect the space and others in practice.
-
Can I keep my phone with me during class? We ask that you silence your phone and leave it with your belongings outside the practice space whenever possible. This helps create a focused, distraction-free environment for everyone. If you're expecting an urgent call or have a specific need to keep your phone nearby, just let your teacher know — we’re happy to accommodate when needed.
-
What is your class cancellation policy? We ask that you cancel at least 12 hours before class to avoid a late cancellation fee or loss of class credit. This helps us honor waitlists and keep things fair for all students. You can cancel through your account. Please note that Yoga Muse does not offer refunds on missed classes.
-
How early should I arrive to class? The studio opens 15 minutes before class starts. Please arrive at least 5-10 minutes before class begins. This gives you time to check in, settle into the space, and start your practice without feeling rushed. Doors may close at the scheduled class time to minimize disruptions.
Still have questions? We’re here to support you. Our Riverdale studio offers yoga, Pilates, and wellness experiences for every level — from first-timers to seasoned practitioners. In addition to weekly classes, we host special yoga workshops and events designed to deepen your practice and nourish your well-being. Whether you're exploring mindful movement or building strength and balance, we’re here to help you feel at home.
