a bit about Andrew

Andrew is a longtime Iyengar yoga practitioner who has traveled to India twice for training in meditation and asana. His teaching emphasizes longer holds and careful attention to alignment, helping students build strength, stability, and clarity in each posture. With particular experience teaching both aging students and athletes, Andrew meets each student where they are at. Expect precise sequencing that combines targeted intensity and relaxation, supporting steady progress over time.

four to the core: instructor Q&A

How did your yoga journey start, and what does it look like today?

I took my first yoga class for credit as a college freshman, loved it, and immediately took it again the next semester. Today I study with senior teachers at the New York Iyengar Institute and my home practice alternates between restorative work and more rigorous, targeted practice based on what my body currently needs. I also keep a daily meditation practice.

What’s something outside of yoga that inspires your practice?

I’m a doctoral student researching U.S. immigration history, and I teach university courses in history and Jewish studies. I also love literature and trained as an opera singer. Research and music both reward patience, precision, and refinement, qualities I try to bring into the way I practice and teach yoga.

What do you hope students take away from your classes?

Practical tools: better alignment, smarter effort, and options that meet them where they are, whether they’re managing aging-related changes or looking to test their limits.

In three words, how would you describe the vibe of your classes?
