a bit about Jen
Jen Volmer brings together a lifelong love of music, movement, and mindfulness in her teaching. With roots in ballet and a degree in viola performance from the Eastman School of Music, she has long explored the deep connection between sound and movement. Now a registered yoga teacher and the founder of Yoga Muse, she creates classes for all ages that encourage students to tune in, move with intention, and connect with their authentic selves. Beyond the mat, she draws on nearly 20 years of brand strategy experience to shape Yoga Muse as a welcoming space where mindfulness, movement, and community come together.
four to the core: instructor Q&A
How did your yoga journey start, and what does it look like today?
I began my yoga journey with no idea what to expect—thinking I’d signed up for some light stretching at my gym, I was surprised when a beginner class left my arms sore for days. For years I practiced intermittently, but it wasn’t until the pandemic—after a fractured talus—that I returned to yoga with intention, using it to rebuild strength and mobility. What began as a curiosity has grown into a commitment and meaningful lifestyle, guiding how I move, breathe, and connect with others both on and off the mat.
What’s something outside of yoga that inspires your practice?
Outside of yoga, I draw inspiration from my background in music and ballet—both arts that help me find a flow state. I’m also inspired by everyday interactions and the world around me.
What do you hope students take away from your classes?
A sense of feeling connected more deeply to themselves, and for the body to feel refreshed and realigned.
In three words, how would you describe the vibe of your classes?
Grounded, Creative, Mindful
